Art vs. Art is a competition for all artists, and needs to be fair for all participants.
Each artist has a maximum of four hours to complete their painting and must be completed between 12 noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday, June 3, 2006. Every artist who receives a canvas must enter the painting in the competition. No bailing out!
There is no limit on the number of registered artists that may participate (paint a canvas), however, only 16 artists will be selected by the audience to compete on-stage for the Grand Prize June 16th, 2006. Here's how it's done.
Once an artist has completed and turned in their painting, Primary Colours will photograph the painting and post it online at www.artvsart.com. The 32 paintings with the most online votes will be displayed live at the Fountain Square Theatre on June 16th. Online voting is from June 4th to June 15th. Only those with valid email addresses can cast votes.
Paintings will only be identified by it's assigned number (no names).
At the Main Event, on June 16th 2006, at the Fountain Square Theatre, every paid/ticketed admission to the event will get to vote for their three favorite paintings. Participating artists are granted free admission to the Main Event. The 16 painting with the most votes that evening will compete for the $2,000 Grand Prize. Votes will be cast and calculated between 8:00 pm and 10:00 pm.
Art vs. Art is a single elimination tournament.
The judging process or “bouts” pit two painting head-to-head for the audience to judge. Two paintings (from the top 16) will be randomly selected for each “bout.” |
RULE SUMMARY
- Each artists must use provided brushes, paint, canvas, and has up to 4 hours to complete a painting at the Harrison Center on June 3, 2006 from 12 - 6 p.m.
- Numbered paintings posted on www.artvsart.com for online vote June 4th to June 15th. Top 32 vote-getters displayed June 16th, 2006 at Fountain Square Theater before Main Event.
- At Main Event, each ticketed attendee selects three favorite paintings. Only top 16 vote-getters compete for $2000 cash prize.
- Two paintings at a time randomly selected from 16 finalists. Audience noise measured with decibel meter determines "bout" winner. Losing paintings face destruction determined by The Wheel of Death. A painting can only be saved from destruction if someone purchases from live auction after each bout.
- The one painting to survive four bouts is the Art vs. Art 2006 Champion and will receive a check for $2000, the Title Belt and full bragging rights.

The audience will decide by appaulse, noise and cheers, which of the two painting will advance to the next round base solely on noise/sound level. We gauge the sound level by digital decibel reader (which measures to the tenth of a decibel). The painting that gets the loudest audience applause wins the "bout" and advances to the next round of judging.
There are a total of four judging rounds. Round one has 8 “bouts” and narrows down the field of 16 paintings to 8. Round two will narrow the field from 8 paintings to 4. Round three has two “bouts” and pares down the final 4 paintings to the final two. Round four is just one “bout” however, it’s the winner-take-all championship.
IMPORTANT: “Bout” winners advance to the next round of judging. Losing paintings face the possiblity of destruction. Losing paintings are placed on the chopping block and a spin of The Wheel of Death will determine a mode of destruction (chain saw, baseball bat, grinder, chipper-shredder, etc.). Modes of destruction may vary, but rest assured, paintings will be annihilated.
Once a mode of destruction is determined, there’s only one way a painting can be saved---if someone is willing to purchase the painting for the minimum purchase price ($150 in Round One, $250 in Round Two, $350 in Round Three, $450 in Round Four). All transaction (cash or credit card) must take place immediately. Otherwise the painting will be destroyed. Cash or Visa and Mastercard accepted only.
If more than one person is willing to purchase the painting, the painting will be auctioned to the highest bidder.
MORE IMPORTANT: One mode of destruction on the Wheel of Death is "Instant Death." Upon spinning the Wheel, if it comes to a stop on the "Instant Death" section, there is no way to save the painting from destruction. There is no auction.
**NOTE: The "Instant Death" section WILL (REPEAT WILL) apply in the final round of judging. 6/1/2006
The winning artist will receive a check for $2,000. Their painting will be auctioned to the highest bidder.
All paintings and materials remain property of Primary Colours and Groove Truck Productions, until they are purchased. Artist will receive 70% of any sales.
All rules and regulations will be fully enforced and may change at Primary Colours or Groove Truck's descretion up until the day of the event. Before artist are given materials they are required to sign a form stating they have read and undertand these rules.
